La Salamanca - Inktober 2016, Original Artwork; South America Argentina Mapuche Latina DC Comics inspired

$40.00
This is the original drawing by me of La Salamanca created by Chuck Dixon and Enrique Alcatena.

Completed for Inktober 2016 - 2018, a drawing project focused on improving drawing & inking techniques that are key to comic books.

La Salamanca is basically a regional goddess or spirit to Argentina who gets caught up with some super heroes. I couldn't stop myself, I had to redesign her outfit. The original was super simple but it didn't feel right for a character who is supposed to have strong regional roots. I like what I came up with after doing a little more research into different indigenous groups of Argentina. I found that her potential origins were in what used to be extensive Mapuche land so I chose to use jewelry and textiles the people wear today for celebrations like their New Year.
